Christyna Skidmore

Christyna Skidmore, MS., LPC, PMH-C, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is also a National Certified Counselor and has voluntarily met national standards in education, experience, and conduct. Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, she was a School Counselor for grades Prek – 12th for a number of years. Currently, she is a crisis counselor for a local school district serving Prek-12th grade students. She assists campuses with social and emotional support and provides crisis interventions when necessary. She has had extensive training in the area of Perinatal and Postpartum Mood Disorders and has become certified in Perinatal Maternal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International.

Christyna believes counseling is a collaborative professional relationship in which the therapist and client work together to explore past and present difficulties that have caused them emotional distress. Her goal is to work together to identify, discover and consider influences that may have prevented one from overcoming these challenges and to reach a self-determined emotional level of functioning, in which, one feels confident, empowered, and encouraged to cope and adapt to past and new challenging situations in order to live a more productive and satisfying life.

Depending on the individual needs of the client, she draws from multiple theological perspectives and utilizes a variety of modalities and techniques throughout the therapy process. Determining success with counseling depends upon ones willingness to allow oneself to express and feel emotions, have an open mind, try new experiences, and attempt recommended activities that might be suggested.

Specialties include: Grief and Loss, trauma, school concerns, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship difficulties, pre and post-partum mood disorders, children and adolescents, and First Responders.
